Forced Air Heating Systems

Forced-air heating systems are the most commonly used central heating units used by American homes. They operate by a main furnace that draws in the air from rooms through ductwork. The furnace then filters and heats the air. This heated air is circulated back into the rooms, rising to higher levels and producing warmth.

One of the first things you should consider when purchasing a new furnace is the efficiency level. This is indicated by the AFUE rating. The higher the AFUE percentage, the better the unit is. The benefit to having a higher efficiency rating on your furnace is that it takes less gas to produce the same amount of heat, therefore, saving you money.

Forced air heating systems come in several different sizes. You can select between up flow, down flow and horizontal models. Also, keep in mind that proper installation is extremely important to the prolonged existence and performance of your new furnace. It is said that proper installation, efficiency, sizing, and a reputable contractor are much more important than the brand you choose.

Common problems include, impurities of furnace air supply, burnout gases contaminating the fire zone, old furnace filters, and possible power control issues. If you find yourself having similar difficulties with your furnace, it is in your best interest to hire a professional technician to come in and take a look at things.
